Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov met with UN resident coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreyeva.
Minister Majnun Mammadov gave information to the participants of the meeting about state support to the agricultural sector in Azerbaijan. Minister mentioned that food security, including the provision of the country's population with quality, healthy food products and the development of rural areas are among the priorities of agricultural policy noting that the Ministry is interested in cooperation with international organizations. Minister Majnun Mammadov added that Azerbaijan was one of the first countries to support the implementation of the “2030 Agenda” to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals at the UN Food Systems Summit.
Vladanka Andreyeva expressed her satisfaction with the development of relations with Azerbaijan. He emphasized that Azerbaijan's active participation in the UN Food Systems Summit is commendable. The parties noted the importance of expanding cooperation in the agricultural sector.
Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed at the meeting.
Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov also met with the newly appointed representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Azerbaijan, Muhammad Nasar Hayat.
Minister Majnun Mammadov made a speech about the reforms carried out in our country in the field of Agriculture and brought to the attention that the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev attaches special importance to the development of the non-oil sector, agriculture, especially food security.
It was noted that cooperation with international organizations continues in order to apply best practices in the agrarian sector in our country. The importance of projects implemented within the framework of joint cooperation with FAO was emphasized and the prospects for cooperation were discussed at the meeting .
It was mentioned that there is great potential for the development of Agriculture in the liberated territories. It was noted that the development of the agrarian sector in these areas, support for farmers in this direction, the creation of “green energy” and disease-free zones, increasing the production of export-potential products, and diversification of exports are among the priorities. The parties exchanged views on future cooperation opportunities with FAO in these areas.
FAO representative in Azerbaijan Muhammad Nasar, in turn, emphasized the importance of cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of Agriculture. The guest said that he would spare no efforts for the further development of relations in the agrarian sector.
At the end, there was an extensive exchange of views on issues of mutual interest.
