Minister Majnun Mammadov met with FAO Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia

Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov met with the delegation led by Viorel Gutu, Regional Representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for Europe and Central Asia, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan.

Welcoming the guests, Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov congratulated Viorel Gutu on his appointment as FAO Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia. Minister Majnun Mammadov spoke about the reforms carried out in our country in the field of agriculture, gave information about the main directions of the agrarian development strategy in Azerbaijan, implemented innovative projects.

The Minister noted that the development of the agrarian sector was declared one of the priorities by the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev. At the meeting, it was noted that there is great potential for the development of agriculture in the liberated territories. It was noted that the development of the agrarian sector and rural areas in these areas is one of the priorities. The parties exchanged views on future cooperation opportunities with FAO in these areas.

It was noted that cooperation with international organizations continues in order to apply best practices in the agrarian sector in our country. At the meeting, the importance of projects implemented within the framework of joint cooperation with FAO was emphasized and the prospects for cooperation were discussed.

Minister Majnun Mammadov touched upon the importance of holding the 29th Session of the Conference of parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan and spoke about the measures taken to minimize the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector.

Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia Viorel Gutu, in turn, emphasized the importance of cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of agriculture. The guest said that he would spare no efforts for the further development of relations in the agrarian sector. The FAO official said they are ready to support the events to be held in Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29.

At the end, there was an extensive exchange of views on issues of mutual interest.
