Minister Majnun Mammadov holds bilateral meetings in Tajikistan

Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov held bilateral meetings in Dushanba within the framework of the III High-Level International Conference on “Water for Sustainable Development” International Decade of activity for 2018-2028.

The prospects of cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture were discussed at the meeting of Minister Majnun Mammadov with the Minister of Agriculture of Tajikistan Kurbon Hakimzoda. Majnun Mammadov mentioned that both countries with rich agricultural potential and natural resources are interested in expanding cooperation in the agrarian sector. A joint working group of experts from the two countries ensures the effective implementation of the agreement on cooperation in the agrarian sector. Issues such as increasing the trade turnover of agricultural and food products, the transfer of the most modern technologies in the agrarian sector, digitalization, implementation of internship programs in the fields of research and education and other issues were discussed during the meeting.

Minister Majnun Mammadov noted that diversification of mutual trade of agricultural products using favorable transport infrastructure is one of the main activities. At the meeting, it was mentioned that the establishment of agricultural processing enterprises together with private sector investment is one of the promising directions for cooperation. It was noted that there are opportunities for entrepreneurs of both countries to benefit from concessions in industrial zones. During the meeting, it was stressed that mutual active participation in international exhibitions and the organization of joint agribusiness forums will further strengthen cooperation between the business circles of the two countries.

At the meeting, it was emphasized that Azerbaijan is ready to share its successful experience in the field of digitalization of the agricultural sector and agricultural insurance with Tajikistan.

It was noted that students from Tajikistan can benefit from the educational programs of the Azerbaijan State Agrarian University. Minister of Agriculture of Tajikistan Kurbon Hakimzoda, in turn, stressed that they are interested in studying the experience of Azerbaijan in the agrarian sector, and noted the possibility of expanding cooperation between the relevant public and private institutions of the two countries in the future in terms of both scientific and exchange of experience in this area.

Then Minister Majnun Mammadov met with Angolan deputy Foreign Minister Domingos Custódio Vieira Lopes. Domingos Custódio Vieira Lopes expressed his interest in the participation of the president of Angola in the 29th Session of the Conference of parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be held in Azerbaijan in November this year.

A meeting was held between Minister Majnun Mammadov and Assistant to the president of Uzbekistan on Agrarian Development Shukhrat Ganiyev, special representative of the president of the Russian Federation on climate issues Ruslan Edelgeriev within the framework of the visit. At the meetings, it was noted the importance of exchanging experience between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, as well as Azerbaijan and Russia in the fields of expanding mutual relations in the field of agriculture, ensuring sustainable development of the agrarian sector, innovative agricultural practices, minimizing the effects of climate changes.

Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed at the meeting.
