Inam Karimov, Minister of Agriculture met with Gu Dongyu, general director of FAO
Inam Karimov, Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan, met with Gu Dong, general director of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) within the framework of Global Forum during the Germany visit.
The Minister noted that coorporation between Azerbaijan and FAO entered to the new stage. Due to his speech, FAO with Partnership Program implement: "Priority directions of agricultural policy in our country are food security, including provision of the population with qualitative, healthy food products and rural development. These goals coincide with the main activities and targets of FAO.
Establishment of a successful cooperation model with FAO is a reality implementation of the UN in the region. We are very pleased a cooperation with the international organization, and in this meanwhile, FAO is pleased to announce the right partner in the international community ”.
Inam Karimov noted that at present there are about 10 joint projects implemented and cooperation within the framework of the FAO and Azerbaijan, covering such fields as seed-growing, animal husbandry, phytosanitary services and pest control.
The Minister informs about the reforms of agricultural sector of Azerbaijan, the application of E-agricultural Information System (EAIS), electronicization of agricultural services. He mentioned that with the application of EAIS, more transparent, targeted and efficient delivery of state support to agriculture will be provided. One of the main benefits of introducing the new system is the elimination of time losses and the availability of information about the cultivation carried out across the country for farmers.
The general director of FAO will be involved in the process of introducing EAIS in Azerbaijan, and named the electronicization of agricultural services as a strict reform. Referring to the implementation of the project "Digital Agricultural Transformation Seminar" with the support of FAO, Gu Dongyu said that the electronicization of the agricultural sector will be increased in agricultural production and productivity, gain access to markets and reduce operating costs. Noting that the use of high technology in all areas of the world is expanding, the general director said that agriculture should not be left out of the process. In this regard, highly appreciating steps implemented by Azerbaijan in the field of electronicization of agricultural services, Gu Dongyu expressed confidence that the successful completion of the process will give a serious impetus to the development of the agricultural sector in the country.
General director FAO expressed his satisfaction with the high level of relations between Azerbaijan and the organization. He noted that his organization cooperate with Azerbaijan since 1995. More than 50 projects have been implemented over the past years. Gu Dong said that the projects aimed at creating a stable, efficient and professional base in the agricultural sector will be continued to be supported.
The implemented affairs, issues on the development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation models within the Global Forum on Global Food and Agriculture were discussed within the framework of Partnership Agreement between FAO and Azerbaijan in the meeting (AZERTAC).
