Director of Agricultural Research Center - Rashad Huseynov and Deputy Director - Namig Shalbuzov recently participated in the International Seminar on “Improving the functioning of agro-food value chains in the South Caucasus region” organized jointly by the Institute of Agricultural Development (IAMO) and Iset Policy Institute (ISET-PI) in the countries of Leibnis transition economy in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Rashad Huseynov made a presentation on “COP and sustainable agriculture” at the event. Speaking about the objectives of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the director gave detailed information on the 29th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29), which is scheduled to be held in Baku in November this year.
The Head of the Center spoke about the Baku Harmony Climate Initiative for farmers, one of the 14 initiatives in the COP29 activity agenda, and brought to the attention of the participants the goals and key points of this initiative. He said that the “Harmony” initiative is intended as a platform that unites global efforts to transform agro-food systems into a more sustainable and sustainable model by bringing together stakeholders in the construction of climate-resistant agricultural systems. This initiative, which will serve as a kind of aggregator in promoting adaptation measures in the agricultural sector, will bring together networks and coalitions to take advantage of their power and ensure the exchange of experience.
Namig Shalbuzov, Deputy Director of the Center, participated in panel discussions on agro-food value chains. He emphasized the importance of agricultural policy based on the results of scientific research for the formation of sustainable agro-food value chains in his speech at the panel where discussions were held on the modern problems and challenges of agro-food value chains, the tools that can be applied to increase the sustainability of these value chains, and He gave proposals on platforms that can be applied to ensure this.
Then, there was a meeting between the Director of the Agricultural Research Center and the Head of the Iset Policy Institute Tamar Sulukhia and the staff of the Institute. During the meeting, information was exchanged on the main activities of the Agricultural Research Center and the Iset Policy Institute, the prospects for future cooperation were discussed, and an agreement was reached on determining the directions of activities for the implementation of joint scientific research.
