28 October 2024

Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov visited cotton fields in Yevlakh and Goranboy districts and got acquainted with the progress of the harvest.

First of all, Minister got acquainted with the cotton field of farmer Amid Badalov in Aran settlement of Yevlakh district and participated in the cotton harvesting process.

The last agrotechnical measures have been carried out on the eve of harvesting in the cotton field, which is located on an area of 6.7 hectares, and the area has been deflated. As a result of the correct observance of the rules of agrotechnical care, a bountiful harvest has grown on the site. Minister Majnun Mammadov exchanged views with farmers and participants on state support for the development of cotton growing, the process of preparation for sowing, leveling of land areas with laser trowel for the proper organization of irrigation, the importance of using modern irrigation systems in cotton plantations, the positive impact of proper use of water and land resources on productivity.

Then Minister got acquainted with the activities of Yevlakh innovation farm of MKT IR LLC. Minister was informed that the company has implemented cotton plantations in different regions of the Republic, and steps have been taken to apply modern cultivation and irrigation technologies in these areas. It was noted that cotton is cultivated under pivot irrigation systems on an area of 360 hectares in the farm under review. The use of irrigation systems in the cultivation of cotton not only saves irrigation water, but also provides high productivity. Since last year, laser leveling works have been carried out in the fields before cultivation in the farms of farmers cooperating on the basis of a contract with MKT IR LLC. Surface irrigation in the leveled areas has become much easier, and the time spent on irrigation has decreased by 7 times compared to previous years. And this made it possible to save both labor resources and irrigation water. Work is underway to apply this experience in wider areas.

At the Yevlakh Innovation Farm, comparative plantings of 16 cotton varieties were carried out under pivot at the same time. In the future, on the basis of comparative analysis, studies are carried out to select better varieties and spread them in large areas.

Then a presentation on the activities of “GP Cotton Holdings” was held at the farm. It was noted that Giltex LLC, which is part of the holding, received the certificate “Amorfi BSCI”, which is accepted by a number of world brands. "GiLTEX" LLC is a part of “GP Cotton Holdings”, which is engaged in the production of cotton and textiles in Azerbaijan. Local cotton produced by "MKT Manufacturing Commerce" LLC is mainly used in the factories producing yarn, textiles, paints, clothing and medical masks included in this company.

During the visit, Minister Majnun Mammadov reviewed the modern agricultural farm of "Azersheker" LLC in Yevlakh district. Minister was presented with a mobile drip system built on a pivot irrigation system. It was noted that as a result of the introduction of this system, 50% water was saved for irrigation water. At the same time, an increase in productivity was observed, as well as an improvement in product quality indicators. This season, after the barley harvest on the farm, repeated cotton plantings were carried out for testing purposes, and currently development in the fields is normal.

Sowing of winter wheat by strip till technology was carried out without any land operation in the fields of "Azersheker" LLC. The use of techniques that carry out several operations at the same time allows the sowing process to be carried out in a shorter time and with better quality, creates the possibility of economical use of labor resources, fuel and fertilizers, and ensures the reduction of carbon emissions into the atmosphere.

Minister noted the importance of spreading the practice of applying modern innovative methods in the cultivation process in wider areas and emphasized the importance of efficient use of water and land resources.
