16 November 2024

On November 16, director of the Agricultural Research Center, Rashad Huseynov participated in the Global Think Tanks Forum held by the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC) together with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Asian Development Bank Institute (AIBI) and the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation Program Institute (CAREC Institute). The director of the Center spoke at the session of the Forum “Global Green Economy: Climate Action, Financing and Innovation” on "Green finance for global climate sustainability: strategies and innovations" and spoke about the application of green finance in agriculture.
The director drew attention to the principles of transition to "green subsidies" and said that from next year it is planned to apply a differential approach to the provision of subsidies in our country. According to this approach, farmers who apply pivot irrigation will receive more subsidies compared to farmers who use other irrigation methods.

In general, the issues of green bonds, sustainable investment mechanisms and the contribution of the financial sector to climate goals were discussed at this session.

The forum was attended by representatives of the most influential think tanks in the T20 network and globally, scientists, officials of government agencies, representatives of the private sector, NGOs and other stakeholders.

Within the framework of the Forum, the green economy model - the model of ensuring sustainable development by harmonizing economic development with environmental protection-was an important topic of discussion. The Forum participants emphasized the importance of reducing carbon emissions, expanding renewable energy sources, introducing green funding mechanisms and adapting to climate changes.

The Global Think Tanks Forum aims to contribute to a better understanding of the effects of climate change by promoting dialogue between countries and promoting measures to support the implementation of the Paris Agreement. The Forum made a significant contribution to increasing Azerbaijan's prestige in the global arena within the framework of COP29 and strengthening the country's strategic position within the international network of think tanks.
