At the Gakh sericulture station, a ceremony was held to distribute 20,000 boxes of hybrid silkworm industrial seeds (grena) to silkworm breeders. The event was attended by officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, representatives of the Executive power of the Gakh district, heads of the State Agricultural Development Centers of 8 districts.
Minister of Agriculture Inam Karimov noted that the development of the agricultural sector was declared a priority by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and the Ministry was assigned important tasks in connection with the development of sericulture: “Unlike last year, for the first time this year, 5 thousand boxes of silkworm seeds (146 kg) were produced at the Gakh sericulture station. Starting next year, it is planned to increase the locally production of silkworm seeds. Unlike last year, this year the number of our silkworm breeders has also increased. Thus, this year silkworm seeds will be distributed free of charge in 40 districts of the Republic on the basis of division into 6000 silkworm breeders. At the same time, during this year, in order to increase productivity, increase the knowledge and skills of local specialists, trainings were held for silkworm breeders, as well as employees of the State Agricultural Development Center of 40 districts engaged in cocoon production. In addition, during the special quarantine regime, veterinary departments of the Agro Services Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture carried out disinfection measures in silkworm storage areas of farms engaged in sericulture, with strict compliance with all recommendations and requirements of the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers. We believe that as a result of the support and encouragement measures implemented by the state for the development of sericulture, as well as the implementation work from this year, there will be high productivity”.
The hybrid silkworm is planned to be completed before the first decade of May, when the process of distributing industrial seeds to silkworm breeders will begin. It should be noted that this season 50 boxes will be grown for the first time in Beylagan and Samukh.
Recall that as a result of state support for sericulture, farmers receive sufficient additional income without leaving their main work. Thus, “Azeripak LLC” buys 4 manats from silkworm breeders, and the state pays 5 manats of subsidies to silkworm breeders for each kilogram of cocoon produced.
Then Minister of Agriculture, Inam Karimov reviewed grain and tobacco fields, tobacco drying cameras, and fruit orchards in Gakh and Shaki. He got acquainted with the activities of the bufallo growing farm of “Dashuz” of “Azeragrar State Production and Processing Union LLC” in Shaki.
