The Grape and Wine Festival was held in Shamakhi on September 13-14. The festival, organized by the Shamakhi District Executive Power, the “Abgora” restaurant and the “Nasimi Gardens” complex in the Meysari village of Shamakhi district, lasted two days.
The opening ceremony of the festival was attended by Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov and other persons.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov said that viticulture and winemaking have a very ancient history in Azerbaijan, as well as in the South Caucasus. Such festivals, in addition to keeping traditions alive, also give impetus to the development of viticulture and winemaking in our country.
Speaking about the importance of the festival, the minister expressed his gratitude to the organizers. He noted that last year, 12 million liters of wine were produced in our country: “There is still a lot to be done in this direction. I believe that this figure will increase year by year, and such festivals will play an important role in the recognition of Azerbaijani wine.”
The head of the Shamakhi District Executive Power, Tahir Mammadov, said that Shamakhi, once known only as an agrarian region, is developing today in both agrotourism and all other areas of tourism: “On behalf of all our population, I express our deep gratitude to our President for the great constructive work carried out in our region, as well as for the development. Such festivals are very important for presenting the poetry, music, carpet weaving, and ancient historical monuments of Shamakhi to tourists at a high level. We will come to you with new projects in the coming years.”
The goal of the festival is to promote local grape and wine production, increase the export potential of wine products, and inform the general public about the history of viticulture and wine production in Azerbaijan and the work done in this field. This year's festival program also included various educational and entertaining events related to grape production and winemaking, and the country's tourism potential.
Various wine brands participated in the festival, which was organized on the territory of the "Shirvan Sharabları" LLC viticulture and winemaking complex in the village of Meysari.
Tastings of various types of wine products demonstrated by local and foreign producers were organized at the event, and visitors had the opportunity to purchase their favorite products at the most affordable - factory prices, participate in master classes, and listen to interesting stories from wine houses.
Exhibitions and pavilions of famous restaurants were also set up on the festival grounds. Artists' works on the topic of viticulture were exhibited for visitors.
Presentations were held by students from 17 higher education institutions within the framework of the "Application of Artificial Intelligence in Precision Agriculture" project implemented by the Agrarian Innovation Center of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Visitors had the opportunity to get to know grape production and winemaking, as well as the tourism potential of Azerbaijan, as well as participate in various games.
The Grape and Wine Festival, which is now in its fourth year, has become a great opportunity for wine producers to establish new business relationships and introduce their products to a wide audience.
