The delegation led by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Majnun Mammadov, who is on an official visit to Georgia, met with the Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Givi Mikanadze. The parties emphasized the importance of implementing student and academic staff exchange programs between universities conducting personnel training in the agricultural sector in our countries, the opportunities for involving young specialists in double diploma, training and internship programs, and strengthening cooperation between scientific and research institutions.
Both ministers emphasized the importance of deepening mutual cooperation between the Azerbaijan State Agrarian University and similar higher education institutions of Georgia in the field of education, organizing joint scientific and practical conferences, conducting student and teacher exchanges in order to improve personnel training in veterinary and other areas, and developing incentive programs for our compatriots living in Georgia to engage in agricultural education. At the meeting, an agreement was reached on the implementation of mutual visits of the leadership of the universities in the near future in order to establish more flexible cooperation relations between the Azerbaijan State Agrarian University and higher education institutions of Georgia.
Later, Minister Majnun Mammadov met with Gela Samkharauli, Chairman of the Agrarian Committee of the Georgian Parliament. The meeting discussed issues of improving the legal and regulatory framework for further deepening cooperation between the two countries in the agrarian sector, ensuring more effective functioning of the laws and international agreements regulating existing cooperation in this field.
The parties emphasized that Azerbaijan and Georgia are strategic partner countries, and that cooperation in the agricultural sector, as in all areas, is constantly developing between our countries. It was noted that the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Agricultural Sector signed between Azerbaijan and Georgia provides the legal framework for mutual relations in the agrarian sector, and the joint Working Group to be established to determine the directions of activity in the agricultural sector will allow this cooperation to be further advanced. The meeting widely discussed issues of increasing mutual trade turnover of agricultural products, organizing joint fight against transboundary diseases, conducting regular information exchange in this field, improving the legislative framework that will support cooperation in the field of scientific research and education, and other issues.
