During his official visit to Georgia, Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov familiarized himself with the activities of a number of agricultural enterprises operating in the country.
Visiting a winery located in the Kartli region, the Azerbaijani delegation was informed that wines are produced there from local grape varieties specific to the Kartli region, including “Chinuri,” “Goruli Mtsvane,” “Tavkveri,” and “Shavkapito.” It was noted that the wines produced are aged in oak barrels and marketed under the “Saguramo” brand in both local and international markets. During the visit, discussions were held on the winery’s future goals, state support provided to viticulture and wine production, measures taken to improve wine quality in small wineries, and opportunities for access to international markets.
During the visit to the Seedling Center operating under the Agricultural Scientific Research Center of Georgia, it was noted that this institution functions as the country’s largest agrarian research base. The Center conducts scientific research in fruit nursery production, rootstock production, preservation of local varieties, cultivation of ornamental plants, as well as in livestock and aquaculture. The Center produces certified seedlings and rootstocks for apples, pears, cherries, peaches, grapes, and other perennial fruit crops. Exchanges of views were held on seedling production, certification, preservation, propagation, and regional adaptation of local varieties.
The Azerbaijani delegation also familiarized itself with the activities of local companies operating in the flour products manufacturing sector and a large livestock enterprise. The parties exchanged experience on the organization of production processes, raw material and feed supply, increasing productivity, strengthening production capacity, and other related topics.
