Minister Majnun Mammadov visited farms in Nakhchivan and met with farmers

Minister reviewed the work done to improve irrigation infrastructure in Nakhchivan

A delegation led by Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov, who was on a visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, visited farms and met with farmers.

As part of the visit, Minister Majnun Mammadov first inspected the Alinjachay-Benaniyar water canal and the Benaniyar reservoir. The Minister was informed that in accordance with the “State Program on the Socio-Economic Development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for 2023–2027”, the reconstruction of the canal that takes water from the Alinjachay and feeds the Benaniyar reservoir located in the Julfa district is ongoing. The project envisages the renovation of a canal with a total length of 6,550 meters.

Later, Minister Majnun Mammadov visited farms in the village of Daste, Ordubad district, and met with farmers. The meeting mainly discussed the establishment of cooperatives and the efficient use of land and water resources in parallel with the water infrastructure to be built. Then, views were exchanged on state support measures for the agricultural sector, development of agriculture, stimulating measures for the expansion of irrigation systems, and other topics.

The delegation also got acquainted with the reconstruction work of the “Araz-1” and “Araz-2” pumping stations, the source of which is the Araz River, and the process of laying a water line. The participants of the visit were informed that the land areas of the Nehram settlement, Araz and Cheshmebasar villages of the Babek region are irrigated through these pumping stations. Currently, construction work on the project is being continued in stages in accordance with the implementation of the “State Program on the Socio-Economic Development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for 2023-2027”. After the project is fully completed, in addition to 1,000 hectares of land in the Nehram settlement, water supply will be improved for an additional 2,000 hectares of irrigated land.

The participants of the trip visited potato and tobacco fields in the Sharur district, got acquainted with the current state of water canals in the district, and were interested in the work being done to deliver irrigation water to agricultural fields efficiently and without loss.
