The 9th meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Latvia was held in Shusha

The 9th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Latvia was held in Shusha.

Opening the event with an introductory speech, the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, co-chairman of the Azerbaijani-Latvian Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation Majnun Mammadov noted that the meeting of the commission was held in Shusha, which has a rich history and cultural heritage, that the historical lands of Azerbaijan were subjected to occupation and extensive destruction, that under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, all occupied territories were liberated, that Azerbaijan restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and that large-scale reconstruction work is currently being carried out in the liberated territories. The Minister expressed his confidence that Azerbaijan will be able to use the best practices of Latvia and other partner countries in reconstruction and construction work.

Minister Majnun Mammadov noted that the relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia that have lasted for more than thirty years are based on mutual respect, trust and partnership. It was noted that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the continuous strengthening of relations with Latvia and there is a great potential for expanding cooperation. Recalling that our country has a reliable and favorable business environment, the Minister called on Latvian entrepreneurs to invest in Azerbaijan, as well as to effectively use the transport and logistics capabilities of our republic.

The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia, the Latvian co-chair of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Latvia, Armands Krauze, in turn, congratulated the Azerbaijani side on the restoration of territorial integrity and sovereignty, and noted that he was pleased to be here and to be here in the city of Shusha, which is of special importance for Azerbaijan. He emphasized that Latvia has always supported and will continue to support the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The Latvian co-chair said that Azerbaijan is an important economic partner, and his country is interested in developing partnership relations with Azerbaijan in all areas. Armands Krauze stated that they are ready to assist Azerbaijani products in accessing the European market. The co-chair of the commission stressed the importance of establishing the Latvian-Azerbaijani Business Cooperation Council as an effective platform for strengthening business ties and supporting joint initiatives.

At the end of the meeting, the protocol on the results of the 9th meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation between Azerbaijan and Latvia was approved. The document envisages further development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the areas of increasing trade turnover, investment, agriculture, food security, transport, science, education, labor, employment and social protection of the population, urban planning and construction, environmental protection and forestry, tourism, culture and other areas of mutual interest. The final protocol also reflects the intention to further improve the legal and regulatory framework of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The parties agreed to hold the 10th meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Latvia next year in Riga.
