A meeting was held on the theme of "Results of 2020 and upcoming tasks in 2021 related to the development of Tobacco-growing”

Online meeting was held on the theme of "Results of 2020 and upcoming tasks in 2021 related to the development of tobacco-growing” organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, on January 16. Minister of Agriculture, Inam Karimov, General Director of Azerbaijan Industrial Corporation OJSC, Kamran Nabizade, Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan Melioration and Water Management OJSC, Zakir Guliyev, employees of the Ministry's Apparatus and subordinate bodies and representatives of companies operating in this field participated in the meeting.

At the event it was noted that the development of the agricultural sector was declared as one of the priority directions by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev. It was reported that systematic support measures for the development of the agricultural sector, including the increase of tobacco-growing were carried out by the state. Speakers noted that tobacco-growing has a rich historical tradition and great potential in Azerbaijan. Also, in accordance with the instructions issued by the President of the country, discussions were held on the development of this field in the regions liberated from occupation and where there is a tradition of tobacco-growing.

The work carried out in the direction of the implementation tasks set and results obtained in the "State Program concerning the development of tobacco-growing in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2017-2021" were discussed in the meeting. It was reported that planting areas and production of tobacco-growing were increased as a result of state support for the development of tobacco-growing in the country.

The importance of value chain built correctly was brought to the attention between farmers, primary processing enterprises and manufacturing companies at the event. The importance of timely and correct implementation of agro-technical measures for the production of quality tobacco, agrochemical analysis of land areas, proper use of mineral fertilizers, prevention of premature plucking of tobacco leaves, timely implementation of measures against pests were stressed.

Preparation for tobacco production and upcoming tasks, development of tobacco-growing, goals and prospects were discussed in the meeting this year. The exchange of views on the provision of subsidies, seedling, mineral fertilizers, provision of seed and technique, irrigation issues were taken place and featured suggestions were registered.

It was noted that the meetings would be continued in this format and relevant instructions were given for the operative solution of the issues raised at the end of the discussions.
