Online meeting was held on the theme of "Development of livestock and upcoming tasks in Azerbaijan"

Online meeting was held on the theme of "Results of 2020 and upcoming tasks in 2021 related to the development of livestock” in the Ministry of Agriculture, on February 10. Minister of Agriculture, Inam Karimov, employees of the Ministry’s Apparatus and subordinate agencies, Heads of Livestock and Dairy Assosiations, representatives and entrepreneurs of companies operating in the field of livestock participated at the online meeting.

It was noted that the development of the agricultural sector was declared as one of the priority direction by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev at the event.  The state carried out systematic support measures for the development of the agricultural sector, including livestock. Over recent years, the tasks are given by the Head of State and the implemented work for developing livestock have been yielded results.

As a result of the measures implemented, livestock production increased by 3.1 per cent in 2020 compared to 2019. Meat production by 3.1 per cent, milk production by 1.9 per cent, egg by 4.3 per cent, wool production by 0.2 per cent were increased last year.

The tasks set forth for the development of livestock in the country, the measures to be taken to increase productivity touched upon, views on the current condition of livestock and pasture areas in the country shared, and implemented reports in this direction were heard at the meeting. Also, in accordance with the instructions issued by the President of the Country, discussions were held on the prospects for the development of the livestock sector in the liberated regions.

The sides exchanged views on the issues related to feed supply in livestock, the importance of innovative feeding, identification of animals, registration and establishment of Electronic Database, organization of selection-breeding work, animals’ insurance, the importance of creating specialized meat-bovine livestock farms, implementation of complex measures on keeping and increasing the breeds belonging to the local gene pool, treatment and issues related to the prevention were discussed at the event.

It was noted that the meetings would be continued in this format and relevant instructions were given for the operative solution of the issues raised at the end of the discussions.
