Minister Inam Karimov visited new citrus gardens in Lankaran, visited tea and strawberry plantations, barns for breeding silkworms, agro-ecotourism institutions
According to the decision of the Agrarian Subsidy Council, farmers will be paid a one-time planting subsidy, along with high-yield planting subsidies for lemon, orange, tangerine, pomegranate, hazelnut and olive orchards to be planted this year. Stimulating the development of intensive horticulture for export-oriented fruits increases the interest of farmers in this area. During the three months since the decision was made, more than 50 hectares of citrus orchards have been planted in the Lankaran region. Minister of Agriculture Inam Karimov familiarized with the lemon garden being built in Vilyan village of Lankaran, exchanged views on the issues of developing citrus fruits with farmers, strengthening Azerbaijan's agricultural products in traditional markets, production of products aimed at export, opportunities to benefit from state support, more efficient use of the region's fertile land resources and so on.
Within the framework of the visit, the delegation got acquainted with the harvest in the tea plantation built in the area of 7 hectares of "Greenchay" LLC, watched the process of care for silkworms in the barns for breeding silkworms, visited the agro-ecotourism center in Istisu settlement. Since there is a great interest in agro-ecotourism in Azerbaijan, a number of projects are being implemented for local and foreign tourists to participate in tea gathering, to get acquainted with the tea production process. Those who are interested in agricultural tourism, dry the leaves collected from the plantations themselves in factory, pack them and get the opportunity to buy the product at a discount of 50 percent. The projects implemented further increase the interest in agro-ecotourism.
Agro-ecotourism opportunities of Istisu settlement are great. Built on an area of 15 hectares, feykhoa, kivi, orange and tangerine gardens occupy an important place in the development of citrus and agro-ecotourism. People who come to the garden have the opportunity to rest here, but can also be fed with organic products. The expansion of the citrus gardens has a positive impact on the growth of population employment, as well as on the sale of organic agricultural products.
Interest in strawberry production is also growing in Lankaran region. Over the past two years, a strawberry plantation has been established in Lankaran on an area of more than 100 hectares. In addition to increasing the welfare of farmers, increasing the production of strawberries and the export of competitive products to foreign markets, agricultural employment of the population plays an important role in the region. During the meeting with farmers in the village of Vilyan and Shaglaser in Lankaran, discussions were held on crop production and cultivation, level of activity, determination of demand in domestic and foreign markets, farmers' proposals were registered.
