Minister of Agriculture Inam Karimov met with students at the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University (ASAU) on the occasion of the beginning of the 2021/2022 academic year. First, the memory of the martyrs of the Great Patriotic War, who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, was commemorated with a minute of silence.
Speaking at the meeting held in the new educational building of ASAU, Minister Inam Karimov said that the development of the agricultural sector was announced by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev as one of the priorities. As a result of consistent measures taken, the agricultural sector has entered a new stage of development, and thanks to state support, the pace of development in this area continues. Calling the richness of human resources and the availability of professional staff one of the key factors in the development of each field, Minister Inam Karimov wished the students success in the new academic year.
Speaking at the event, the rector of the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University Ibrahim Jafarov and professor of the Ege University of the Republic of Turkey Ismail Turkan praised the significant increase in the number of students studying agriculture and state specialties in recent years.
Participants of the event were informed in detail about the modernization of the material and technical base of ASAU and the provision of competitive training, as well as the implementation work in preparation for the new school year.
Afterwards, a meeting was held with the students admitted to ASAU with high scores and the faculty invited from the Ege University of Turkey within the dual degree program, as well as with the students admitted to the dual degree program. Speaking at the event, students and parents expressed their deep gratitude to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for his attention and care for agricultural education.
Currently, the university's more than 560 faculty members teach the intricacies of agricultural science to more than 6,000 students. In recent years, there has been an increase in admission to agricultural specialties and the level of transition points. For the first time in the history of the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University, this year the enrollment has reached the highest level - 1347 people, which shows the growing interest in education in agriculture. Azerbaijan State Agricultural University cooperates with more than 60 universities from more than 26 countries. Starting from the current academic year, leading scientists of Ege University have been involved in the teaching process at the university. In recent years, as a result of the expansion of ASAU's international relations, the number of foreign students studying at the university has increased significantly. 171 foreign students were admitted to the university in the current academic year.
During the visit, Minister Inam Karimov inspected the Livestock Research Institute, Artificial Insemination Center of the University in Goygol region, got acquainted with the progress of construction of large and small horned livestock complexes, as well as the Beekeeping Center.
