An international scientific-practical conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Livestock Research Institute was held

An international scientific-practical conference on "Modern problems of livestock and innovative concepts" was held in Ganja. The conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Livestock Research Institute and the 120th anniversary of academician Firuz Malikov focused on research in the field of livestock, international experience in improving the breeding of animals, innovative approaches and other topics.

In his opening speech at the conference, Minister of Agriculture Inam Karimov said that ensuring sustainable economic growth in each country at the present time, first of all, makes it necessary to develop science in that country in accordance with modern requirements. Determining the direction of development of the economy based on innovations depends on the level of development of science, especially research. In this regard, scientific institutions act as a driving force for the transition and development of the knowledge economy. The state is taking systematic support measures for the development of the agricultural sector, where scientific achievements are widely used.

It was noted that the 90th anniversary of the Livestock Research Institute has made a significant contribution to the development of livestock in Azerbaijan with its scientific research. The institute has conducted ongoing research to protect local gene pools, create breeding centers for animal species and breeds, and raise high-yielding breeds with stable hereditary traits. However, the realities of the day require a change in the approach to livestock research. Research should keep pace with the challenges of the time and become more practical.

It was noted that the Livestock Research Institute should expand research in the organization of selection and breeding work, the application of modern innovative technologies, the use of nutritious fodder plants and the organization of proper nutrition. In particular, the institute should work in the field of application of biotechnology, genetic engineering, construction in accordance with modern challenges in the field of cultivation. To achieve these goals, the material and technical equipment of the Livestock Research Institute has been completely renewed, modern equipment has been purchased, and the most modern laboratories have been set up. The staff of the institute uses these opportunities to conduct research in accordance with the requirements of the day.

Speaking at the conference, MP Tahir Rzayev, Chairman of the Committee on Agricultural Policy of the Parliamentary Committee said that livestock as one of the main sectors of agriculture plays an important role in ensuring food security. State support measures have a positive impact on the development of this area. Along with practical experience in the field of livestock, scientific research is also important. Scientific institutions should contribute to the further development of this field by building their activities in accordance with the challenges of the day.

Speaking at the conference, Head of Ganja City Executive Authority Niyazi Bayramov, Rector of Azerbaijan State Agricultural University, Professor Ibrahim Jafarov, granddaughter Shirin Malikova on behalf of the family of academician Firuz Malikov, Turkey's consul general in Ganja Zaki Ozturk, Deputy Rector of Kars Qafqaz University Engin Kilic, Director of the Institute of Engineering of the University of Knyaginya Evgeny Voronov, Chairman of the Barda Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross Sabrina Denuncq shared their views on the activities of the Livestock Research Institute and congratulated the staff on the anniversary.

Then the employees of the institute were awarded honorary diplomas.

During the event, the conference participants visited the laboratories, experimental farms, containers for the production of green fodder, equipped with the latest equipment at the Livestock Research Institute. The guests met with students of the veterinary faculty at the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University and watched the practical classes.

The conference continues in panel sessions. The panel sessions will feature speeches by about 20 well-known livestock scientists from Turkey, Russia, Iran and Belarus. The participants will discuss embryo transfer in livestock, feed grain hygiene, potential use of wireless sensing system in livestock and other topics.
