A Republican Conference on the theme of “Cocoon-2022: Challenges ahead” was held in Gakh district. On March 11, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, responsible people of the Executive Power structures of different regions, representatives of “Azerbaijan Industry Corporation” OJSC, heads of subordinate bodies of the Ministry and State Agrarian Development Centers, representatives of scientific research institutes, about 50 cocoon makers engaged in cocoon production attended the meeting held at the Heydar Aliyev Center.
Opening the conference, the head of the Executive Power of Gakh District Musa Shakiliyev said that major investment projects have been prepared and successfully implemented in Azerbaijan, which has gained a historic victory in the Patriotic War, in order to further develop the economy in a short period of time. As a result of the state support to the development of the agricultural sector, which is one of the main areas of the country’s economy, and the implementation of consistent measures in this regard, the production of crops in various fields of agriculture is increasing: “As a result of the state’s attention and care, the increase in productivity in this area, along with contributing to the country’s economy, has led to an increase in farm incomes and improved the material well-being of farmers”.
Speaking at the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture Inam Karimov noted that the development of the agrarian sector was declared as a priority by the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev: “Silkworm breeding and sericulture in Azerbaijan have rich historical traditions and great potential. The development of this sphere is one of the main tasks facing us. Our main goal is to restore this tradition and increase productivity in this area. In our country, multi-faceted state support measures are being implemented to the cocoon makers engaged in the production of cocoons. According to the decree signed by Mr. President, the amount of the subsidy for each kilogram of the age cocoon transferred to the supply points from this year was increased by 1 manat and increased to 6 manat. In addition, based on the request of the Ministry of Agriculture, “Azeri silk” LLC raised the price of the purchased cocoon from 4 manat to 5 manat. Thus, in the current season, the cocoon makers will receive not 9, but 11 manats per kilogram of the harvested cocoon”.
The Minister informed farmers about the preparations for the cocoon season this year and the upcoming tasks, the development of silkworm breeding, goals and prospects, as well as the work done for the development of agriculture and the forthcoming tasks.
Later, at the meeting, the heads of the Ministry of Agriculture, relevant structures, members of the Cocoon Council, and cocoon makers from different regions shared their views on the development of sericulture in the country. At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the issues of provision with mulberry seedlings, development directions of hybrid silkworm seeding, the organization of incubation, the creation of modular clustering, the questions of the breeders were answered, and the proposed proposals were recorded.
At the end of the discussions, it was stated that the meetings in this format will be continued and farmers will be informed about the work done to solve the raised issues.
At the meeting, the cocoon makers, who achieved high productivity in sericulture last season, were awarded Honorary Diplomas and certificates of gratitude to the State Agrarian Development Centers.
