On August 28, in the village of Shorsulu, Salyan region, the closing ceremony of the project “Support to the preparation of the National Soil Consolidation Strategy and the Land Consolidation Pilot Project” was held. The ceremony was attended by representatives of international and national consultants of the project, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Executive Power of the Salyan region, members of the Shorsulu municipality, farmers and rural residents.
The head of the FAO Partnership and Coordination in Azerbaijan, Melek Chakmak, spoke at the event and informed the participants about the goals and objectives of the project, the importance of land consolidation, the relevance and experience of advanced countries in this field. Then Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ilhama Gadimova said that the project is being implemented on the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture as part of the Technical Cooperation Program with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The deputy minister noted that land consolidation is considered as an urgent problem not only for Azerbaijan, but also for most of the world, including Europe. The aim of the project is to promote the sustainable development of rural areas and agriculture in the country, as well as the implementation of the national land consolidation strategy. Sevindik Khatamov, the head of the executive branch of Salyan, praised the election of his district as a pilot site. He added that in the future support for the successful implementation of projects in Salyan will continue. During the event, project lead expert Morten Hartvigsen, FAO Legal Officer Margret Vidar informed the participants about the results. At the meeting, a presentation of the State program on land consolidation, national strategy and legislation was made by the national legal adviser Samir Isayev, international legal adviser Thomas Versinskas, national project coordinator, group leader Amin Ismayilov. At the end of the event, project experts answered questions from landowners and listened to their suggestions. The farmers, expressing gratitude to the Ministry of Agriculture and the FAO, considered it worthwhile to carry out further projects in this field. Then, as part of the project, a pedestrian crossing on the canal was opened for use by farmers in the village of Shorsulu.
