Republican Meeting was held on the theme of “Grain 2020: Upcoming Challenges” in Jalilabad

On September 6, the Republican Meeting “Grain 2020: Upcoming Challenges” was held in Jalilabad. The meeting at the Heydar Aliyev Center was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, executive bodies of various regions, directors of departments of the Ministry and State Agricultural Development Centers, representatives of research institutes, 200 farmers from different regions of Azerbaijan.

Opening the event, head of the Jalilabad District Executive Power Namig Zeynalov said that state support for grain in Azerbaijan is growing. Jalilabad is one of the largest grain regions in Azerbaijan. This year, the average crop yield in the region was quite high. Upcoming years, we aim to get more output from the fields”. Speaking at the meeting, Inam Karimov, Minister of Agriculture said that as a result of the policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev, the agricultural sector has entered a qualitatively new stage of development. The Minister noted thanks to the decisions of the head of state, a real basis has emerged for the widespread use of advanced regulatory and support mechanisms in agricultural sector of our country: “In the first six months of this year, total agricultural production increased by 13%, including crop production by 25.6% and animal husbandry by 2.9% compared with the same period last year”. The Minister said that the grain season in 2019 was remembered by positive results: “Harvesting began on May 25 in the Aran region, and by July 10, 90% of the total sown area was completed. The remaining 10% is cereal fields in the highlands, and their crop continues to grow. This year, the main period of grain harvesting ended by 20 days compared to the previous year and collected 3 228 330 tons. The average grain yield in the country was 31.3 centners, including the average wheat yield was 32.4 centners, and barley - 29.7 centners. Compared to 2018, wheat harvest increased by 2.3 centners, and barley productivity - by 1.8 centners. This year, compared to 2018, more than 200 thousand tons of wheat and barley were harvested. ” The Ministry of Agriculture thanked 10 farmers, seeders and mechanics for their role in the development of grain and seed production in Azerbaijan in 2019, for achieving high yields, creating exemplary farms, active participation in grain harvesting and crop loss. Ministry of Agriculture, Inam Karimov and Namig Zeynalov, the head of the executive branch of the Jalilabad region were handed to farmers letters of thanks. Next, Rafail Guliyev, head of the department of organization and monitoring of plant-growing of the Ministry of Agriculture, on the theme of “Results of grain production in republic in 2019 and the challenges facing the grain industry in 2019/20, Seymur Movlayev, director of the Agricultural Services Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture on the theme of “The state of seed-growing and phytosanitary services for grain production in the republic and the challenges ahead”, Elmin Rakhmanov, chairman of the Board of Agrolizing OJSC, made a presentation entitled “Status of the provision of grain fertilizers, pesticides and equipment” presented in the meeting. Zakir Guliyev, deputy director of Reclamation and Water Management OJSC, answered questions from participants about the implementation measures on irrigation of grain fields. During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the preparation of grain crops, the provision of seeds, fertilizers and equipment, the directions for the development of grain seeds, the new rules for the provision of subsidies, proposals of farmers were recorded.
