On July 25, a meeting was held in the Baku Business Center regarding the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated July 19, 2022 "On a number of measures to increase the level of self-sufficiency with food wheat". At the meeting, Minister of Agriculture Inam Karimov, Deputy Minister of Economy Sahib Mammadov, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Ecology of the Cabinet of Ministers Latif Gasimov, Chairman of the Board of the State Reserves Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sabuhi Sadigov, Chairman of "Melioration and Water Management" OJSC Zaur Mikayilov, grain producers and farmers participated.
At the meeting, the leaders of the relevant state institutions responsible for the implementation of the Decree spoke and said that the state is implementing great support measures for the further development of the agricultural sector, like other sectors of the economy. Subsidies are given for the development of various fields of agriculture, especially grain growing, and concessions are applied by the state regarding the provision of equipment. There are challenges related to food security at the global level in countries all over the world. In order to prevent risks in this area, Mr. President signed a decree to promote food wheat cultivation. According to the document, in addition to the crop subsidy for each hectare, it is also envisaged to give the farmers a crop subsidy. From now on, our farmers will receive an additional crop subsidy for the food wheat they deliver to the State Reserves Agency and flour mills. In addition, this Decree will promote the introduction of modern irrigation systems for the cultivation of food wheat. On the other hand, the minimum purchase price for food wheat will be determined. Thus, the Decree "On a number of measures to increase the level of self-sufficiency with food wheat" will further stimulate the production of food wheat in the country and will make an important contribution to ensuring food security.
At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the wide application of modern resource-saving technologies, including modern irrigation systems, for the production of quality seeds by applying new innovative technologies in grain farming, the expansion of the use of certified seeds, proper agrotechnical care of grain fields, provision of irrigation water, and the improvement of the productivity and quality of plants. It was noted that the farmers benefited widely from the state's support mechanisms for this process, and the proposals made regarding the development of grain farming were registered.
It is planned to continue the meetings in this format.
