The distribution of silkworm seeds to sikworm breeders across the country has started

The cocooning season of 2023 has started in Azerbaijan

The process of distributing hybrid silkworm industrial seeds to silkworm breeders for the cocooning season of 2023 has been initialized. This year, it is envisaged to distribute 11,500 boxes of silkworm industrial seeds (grena) to silkworm breeders free of charge. The silkworm seed incubation process was implemented in the new cocoon drying facilities built in the Barda, Agsu, Zardab and Zagatala regions, in addition to the Gakh Breeding Sericulture Station. During the cocooning season, all barn for breeding silkworms were disinfected, the silkworm breeders involved in training.

On April 27, an event dedicated to the distribution of hybrid silkworm seeds to silkworm breeders was held at the Gakh Breeding Sericulture Station. The event was attended by Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov, Deputy Minister Sarvan Jafarov, Head of the Department of plant-growing monitoring of the Ministry Imran Jumshudov, Gakh district administration, directors of State Agricultural Development Centers (DAIM) of various regions, employees and specialists of Gakh Breeding Sericulture Station.

Minister Majnun Mammadov mentioned that all preparatory work has been completed during the cocoon season. The all barn for breeding silkworms were prepared according to agro-zootechnical requirements, disinfection works were carried out, the farmers were involved in training. Stating that cocooning and sericulture have ancient traditions in Azerbaijan, the Minister said that continuous support measures were implemented by the state for the development of this field.

It was noted at the event that state support for the development of silkworm breeding and sericulture in the country increases the interest of silkworm breeders in this area every year. According to the contract signed with the silkworm breeders, the produced wet cocoon will be handed over by the relevant body for 5 manats, and the state will pay the silkworm breeders a subsidy of 6 manats for each kilogram of wet cocoon produced.

After the event, a meeting was held with the heads of the State Agricultural Development Centers of the regions where cocoons are produced, they exchanged ideas about the work to be done in the new season, and gave recommendations and assignments.

Within the framework of the visit, Minister Majnun Mammadov got acquainted with the building of the Gakh State Agricultural Development Center, met with the staff of SADC, and visited farms operating in the region. Also, the condition of the winter crops in the Shaki area was met on the spot, and the damage caused by the drought to the grain fields was evaluated on the spot.
