A plenary session on the factoring of the outcomes of the UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) was held in Rome, Italy. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sarvan Jafarov represented our country at the event.
The plenary session was co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Fund for the Development of Agriculture (IFAD) and the World Food Program (WFP) at the initiative of the UN Secretary General. The endeavour of the event is to consider the state of implementation of the tasks set at the UNFSS summit in 2021, the results and their contribution to the global food security system, and form a preliminary version of the “2030 Agenda” programme.
Making a speech at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan Sarvan Jafarov mentioned that the UN Food Systems Summit, which brings the world community together for a single goal, was one of the first countries to support the implementation of the “2030 Agenda”to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. A specific policy was determined and implemented to accelerate the country's goals in this direction. At various levels of national dialogues organized in Azerbaijan, a joint approach was promoted in determining the challenges and priorities for the transformation of the national food system by 2030. The discussions in the form of mutual dialogue revolved around the rapid population growth, changing consumer demands, as well as ensuring food and food security in the world against the backdrop of climate change and depletion of natural resources.
The Deputy Minister noted that serious steps have been taken to digitalize the agri sector in Azerbaijan. At present, it is possible to use all agricultural services and state benefits in the agrarian sector in our country through an Electronic Agricultural Information System. In addition, public awareness and outreach services are being implemented to ensure that farmers are better oriented towards digital transformation.
Sarvan Jafarov said that Azerbaijan, which is considered a reliable partner in the international arena, is ready to further contribute to the establishment of effective cooperation with its international partners.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan took part the 4th Summit of the European Corporate Council for Africa and the Middle East in Rome. Sarvan Jafarov said that pandemics and climate changes disrupt the food systems that underlie human health speaking at the summit dedicated to the discussion of the difficulties caused by negative manifestations of global climate changes. The Deputy Minister said that there should be a mutual, joint approach on a global scale in order to avoid possible future risks. İnitiatives and programs adopted by Azerbaijan's international partners at the global level can be considered as the main directions of the policies and strategies of governments from this point of view .
The parties exchanged views on issues such as digital transformation of agriculture, technology transfer in this area, sharing best practices at the summit.
